Thursday evening, August 8, 2019-SHANTEL and Hubert Lenoir

SHANTEL

Real name Stefan Hangel, this Berlin-based artist started his career in the 90s as a DJ, playing mainly hardcore electronic music (EDM).

It was in 1996, after a return to his family's native region of Bucovina (a "self-controlled state" that lies between Romania and Ukraine) that Shantel made a risky musical turn. Blending elements of modern club music with Eastern European and Balkan music, he has turned traditions on their head. Musical multi-ethnicity is, as he calls it, "the backbone" of his now huge success: Bucovina Club Nights.

Shantel describes his genre as "a sound that immediately brings emotion. It's music that comes from the body - dynamic because it's fast, then slow, then fast again. And the party is alive. It's boiling, it's exploding!" (according to the article in Ambient Light on March 12, 2019).

To sum up, coming to see Shantel on Thursday, August 8 in Gaspé at FMBM is like savoring a good cocktail composed of :

10 % Emir Kusturica
20 % Roma orchestra
20 % gypsy punk
20 % balkan beat
15 % euro-pop techno-dancehall eastern style
10 % Turkish, North African, Greek, solar spices
5% vodka

HUBERT LENOIR

One thing is certain when we talk about Hubert Lenoir, he does not leave anyone indifferent.

With his strong stage presence, his avant-garde musical talent and the exceptional complicity with his four musicians and his backup singer, this multi-awarded Quebec artist knows how to create emotion.

In a formatted world, he brings a jubilant rebellion, which we find in his music with sounds sometimes punk-rock, sometimes jazz or R&B.

In 12 months, Hubert Lenoir has already played more than 50 concerts and has many collaborations underway, notably with Yes McCan (ex Dead Obies), whom we can't wait to hear! This summer, he will "perform in a free spirit", according to his manager, and deliver, for sure, an explosive and dancing show.

We hope to see you on Thursday, August 8 in Gaspé during the FMBM to share a memorable evening under the big top of the Grands Spectacles Hydro-Québec.
