Shauit

Shauit, a native of Quebec's North Shore, sings of the complexity and beauty of the Innu nation with a harmonious blend of folk, roots and reggae. Mostly in the Innu language, he evokes heartfelt stories drawn from personal experience.

His work has earned him numerous awards, including the Félix for Album of the Year in Native Languages at the Premier Gala de l'ADISQ 2023 for his second album, Natukun (2023), the GAMIQ for Trad Album of 2023, as well as Best Native Album at the Indigenous Music Awards, and Best Singer-Songwriter at the Folk Music Awards.

A nomadic artist, Shauit's mission is to promote his endangered language throughout the world. He has given over 400 performances in more than seven countries, taking part in prestigious events such as Bis de Nantes, WOMEX, Folk Alliance, the Shibuya Festival in Japan, and the Zandari Festa in South Korea.

His latest album, NATUKUN, which translates as "remedy" in Innu, marks a new stage in his career. Shauit passionately fuses Quebec music with her Innu culture, creating a vibrant musical portrait of the province, incorporating traditional instruments such as fiddle and guitar. Her work celebrates festive collaboration with Quebec artists, while evoking her North Shore roots and themes of reconciliation, all imbued with an ardent desire to live.
