Founded in 2008 by Joe Mephisto, a percussionist with a passion for African sounds, Terrato draws its inspiration from the bewitching rhythms of samba-reggae and axé. Drawing on his experiences with Brazilian percussion schools such as Swing do Pelo and performances at the famous Salvador da Bahia carnival with Muzenza, Joe has fashioned a unique musical ensemble.

Terrato doesn't just reproduce sounds, it embodies a true spirit of sharing and expression. Guided by friend and Montreal-based Grao Mestre Vovo Saramanda, the group maintains a natural, spiritual balance that is reflected in its music. Terrato's musicians also sometimes add their two cents, as this is an open band that gives them the chance to express themselves. And thanks to their energy, no crowd can resist the urge to dance!
